Family Visit !
Snow takes us back to childhood

It’s been pretty much a month since we landed in Vilnius. After a brief period of integration and three weeks of struggling with our schedule (many changes due to overlapping subjects or even subjects we couldn’t take because of design requirements we didn’t meet), a break was welcome. For that, my family visited me for a week. Due to their work, they couldn’t come later, so even though it had been "only" a month since I last saw them and there are at least three months left, we had to make the most of it!

During the February holidays, my family and I are used to traveling to a European capital. I’m incredibly lucky to have traveled a lot thanks to these trips (Athens, Amsterdam, Prague, …). Of course, the destination for this holiday was already set when I told them I was going to Vilnius. After doing some research on things to do in Vilnius and realizing that an entire week was not necessary, we decided to visit Riga as well.

That’s why I took the bus on Saturday, February 15th, to meet them in Riga. On the first day, we walked around the city. The following day, we did a guided tour that focused more on the historical aspects of the city, particularly its numerous occupations. This was kind of a link to the KGB Museum, which we visited afterward. It was fascinating, mainly because of the excellent guide. We were lucky enough to experience a heavy snowfall, as you can see in the picture, the guide even told us that it was very unusual to have such a large amount of snow.

It was already time to take the bus back to Vilnius, but this time with my whole family. A four and a half hour drive turned into a six hour one due to a bus breakdown. But in the end, we made it to Vilnius. This time, I was the guide. In two days, we managed to see the most important places in Vilnius: the Cathedral, Gediminas Castle, the Three Crosses, …

It all went by so fast! But it’s always a pleasure to see family. Saying goodbye for three months,is not the same pleasure.
